Address - 129 London Rd, Old Fletton, Peterborough PE2 9DD

Southside Methodist Church was built in 1993 on the site of the former London Road Methodist Church.

The church originally combined the former congregations of Fletton Avenue and London Road Methodist Churches.
Our Mission is: To Share Jesus

Who are we?

Our membership is around 30, mainly retired white British. However, our congregation is more diverse. Recently we have seen many new people worship at Southside, including new families who have joined the congregation over the last couple of years. These families have children of varying ages from toddlers to teenagers and attend Sunday worship less frequently, yet some do attend worship once or twice a month.

Over the last year or so, we have provided children’s ministry on a Sunday morning, with Bible based activities for the children which she leads in the foyer during our Sunday Services. This has been greatly appreciated.

What happens at Southside?

Church4All - Is our term time Group for children of Primary School age and their parents/carers including Craft activities, Games, Refreshments and worship. It is ‘WORSHIP DONE DIFFERENTLY’.

Church4All tends to be held on Tuesdays although periodically at the moment). It is mostly attended by families who don’t attend Sunday Worship. Church4All is led by Suzanne (Lay worker) supported by other members of the congregation.

Footsteps - Footsteps (Southside’s Toddler Group) is led by Louise, supported by regular volunteers, on Wednesday mornings during term time. It is very popular and helps fulfil a need in our local community.

Wednesday Friends, Social Group - This is a social group mainly for retirees. Meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month from 2-4 pm, where everyone is welcomed. Sometimes activities are organised and at other times there will be an opportunity to continue with personal projects - puzzles, knitting etc but will always include eating cake and drinking tea/coffee.

Emmaus Prayer Group - This group meets every Saturday morning via Zoom, as a fellowship group and to pray for the concerns of the church and the individuals present - but if that makes it sound like it's terribly serious and pious think again! It's usually lively, chatty and friendly, an opportunity to meet with Christian friends and share what's on your mind. Everyone is welcome.

Homeless Pod - Working in Partnership with Light Project Peterborough we host a cabin providing temporary overnight accommodation for a homeless person in our car parking area. Some members or our congregation also cook evening meals on a rota basis for the occupant.

We also support Peterborough Food Bank through donations and let the church out to a U3A Welsh Language Group on Fridays.
